Book Review: Right For Me by Cindy Dorminy

Solid Romance... For The Right Reader. This is one of those romances novels that is going to piss a lot of people off for a lot of different reasons... and yet for the right reader is a pretty damn solid tale.

The biggest dichotomy: It has way too much praying and Christianity for some readers, particularly those adamantly opposed to anything that even remotely resembles the word "Christ"... and way too much (fade to black, to be clear) spice for the a decent segment of the crowd that would be thrilled to have such easy, "normal", lived Christianity in a romance tale. Our male lead is a Preacher's Kid, and, well, he acts like it. ;) (For those less familiar with at least the church circles I grew up in, Preacher's Kids are rather infamous for being *right there* in the front pew on Sunday morning... and *right there* in the middle of the biggest parties on Saturday night before. Our male lead here... well, he's learning, but yeah, if you're not comfortable with that type of character, this isn't going to be your book.)

Beyond that, certain elements of this book point to both the MeToo moment it was written during... and (unfortunately) the all too common realities of college life (at least in prior eras?) many of us lived through to varying degrees.

And yet the other dichotomies actually work rather well together to craft a well rounded and compelling character and story, with a guy working on his Master's in Computer Science who really wants to actually be... something else. A Southerner in Boston. Rich girl falls for "not so earthly rich" boy. Meddling friends and family... in the best ways, but also all too real ways for many of us.

This is book 2 of a semi-loosely connected series - this story reads largely as standalone, but it deals at least tangentially with the fallout from book 1 (whose characters appear sporadically throughout this tale) while also rather blatantly setting up book 3 (whose seeming central couple also appears sporadically throughout this tale), as such romance "standalone series" tend to do. Romance readers will be well familiar with this format, as it is so very common in the genre, and those looking to maybe give this book a chance shouldn't be too put off by it unless you're a hardcore "NO SPOILER" type that can't stand to have even the obvious plot points (and, to be fair in this case, a few tangential not so obvious plot points) from prior books "spoiled".

Overall truly a solid romance tale, one that works well in a variety of environments but will also need a reader more open minded than some tend to be. Know thyself, and read - or not - accordingly. If you do decide to read this book, maybe leave a review wherever you see this one? I'd love to know what you think of it as well.

Very much recommended.
