#BookReview: Mutation by Michael McBride

Not The Direction I Was Expecting, Excellent Conclusion (Or Was It) Regardless. First off, as I said on the review for Forsaken (Book 2 in this series where this book is Book 3), IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE EARLIER BOOKS HERE (Subhuman, Forsaken), READ THEM FIRST. You’re not going to really know what is happening here without having read them, and McBride spends pretty well zero time catching the reader up on previous events.

That out of the way, this particular entrant into the series works well as a blatant effort by a writer who was given a three book contract and is hoping to be picked up to continue the series… but doesn’t know as he is writing whether that will happen. So while the conclusion of FORSAKEN almost sets up a potential dozen ish book series, MUTATION goes the more balls-to-the-wall, Matthew Reilly‘s Jack West Jr series combined with Jeremy Robinson‘s CHESSPOCALYPSE event series approach to wrapping everything up in one fell swoop… then using the epilogue to “move the chess piece” (as in the last second of X-Men: The Last Stand) to allow for future stories within this universe.

Overall an excellent book and series, one I hope McBride can come back to once his current contract for these books expires and he gets the rights to them himself. Very much recommended.

#BookReview: The Three Secret Cities by Matthew Reilly

Yet Another Wild Ride! At this point, if you’re following these books you’re going to keep reading them. If you haven’t picked them up yet, go back to 7 Deadly Wonders and start the series from there – there is *so* much to get caught up on before picking this book up. (Though in fairness, you can largely follow this particular book just from reading 4 Legendary Kingdoms first.) HOWEVER, that “shocking ending”… wasn’t, at least not for me. Until the final few words. And *now* I am intrigued and looking forward to the 2 ____ _____ with baited breath!

#BookReview: Flood Rising by Jeremy Robinson

Robinson and Ellis attempt to out-Bourne Robert Ludlum, and in the process not only do that (and much more enjoyably!) but also out-Scarecrow Matthew Reilly. If you’re looking for an action packed thrill ride full of mystery and suspense, look no further! The explosion on the cover is basically the first scene of the book… and the book never really stops from there. From the Florida Keys to Arecibo to Arizona, we jump over quite a bit of the US as Jenna Flood begins to realize nothing is as it seems. And I do mean *nothing*. Pick this book up – you won’t be disappointed, and you’ll most likely be hooked on Robinson and Ellis!
