#BookReview: Fair Warning by John Sneeden

Fun, Light-Ish, Fast – A Solid Cozy Mystery. For me, the ideal cozy mystery is mostly fun, mostly light-ish, a fast read, and maybe a touch quirky. Solid friend dynamics are always a great thing too. Here, in Sneeden’s first cozy… that is pretty well exactly what we get. It is a murder mystery, so it isn’t *completely* light – someone was murdered, after all – but the overall story isn’t weighed down by the dark and depressing, instead giving over to more banter and quips between friends as they try to solve the mystery at hand together. Oh, and one of them just found that her cat can talk. Which as I’ve told my own cat is a billion dollar idea if he would just learn to speak English in addition to Cat, so hey, maybe Sneeden is about to make his character a sudden billionaire. 😉

At a touch under 200 pages, this is also a very fast read, perfect for those times when you don’t have much time to read but need a fun diversion. Maybe the kids are in the last days of summer break as this book releases (oh, they *are*, well… sounds like you need this book 😉 ). Maybe it is later in the year and you’re frazzled getting ready for the holidays and all the cooking and travelling and just need a few minutes. Maybe it is Every. Sunday. Morning. trying to get ready for church and the kids are a *nightmare* every freaking week and you just need a few minutes to yourself to lighten you mood so you can handle them more effectively. Maybe you’ve just had a break from a community you thought you could call your own and need a chance to decompress and heal a bit. Wherever life finds you, whenever you need a quick break for whatever reason… this book is perfect *right there*. (Also, for readers who track their reading and are behind in their goals… quick, easy read. :D)

Ultimately, I can’t stress enough just how much of a fun, easy read this is – and how perfect that is in at least certain situations. Absolutely a book to have on hand for when you may need something exactly like that.

#BlogTour: Seven Year Itch by Amy Daws

For this blog tour, we’re looking at an *almost* erotica level romcom whose plot still manages to pack a punch. For this blog tour, we’re looking at Seven Year Itch by Amy Daws.

First, the review I posted to the book sites (BookBub.com / BookHype.com / Goodreads.com / PageBound.co / TheStoryGraph.com) and YouTube:

Sexual Exploration Romcom. The title of this review says it all. This is *easily* one of the actually closest to erotica romcoms I’ve ever encountered, with pretty well the entire plot focused around sexual exploration and a somewhat thin, yet still fun and compelling, plot wrapped around that to tie the sex scenes together.

I would say the comedic elements here are fewer and further between than they were in Nine Month Contract, but they’re still present – and the animals (primarily a cat in this tale, which first appeared in Nine Month Contract) don’t quite steal the scenes as much in this tale, despite being nearly equally present.

Instead, this book revolves more around healing from past traumas of both halves of our main couple, including one particular event seven years ago that may not have gone down exactly as each understood it to have.

And yes, lots and lots of ghost pepper level “spice”, though without some of the elements of Nine Month Contract that may have turned some off from that tale. And while this part of the tale may make some uncomfortable, it is actually handled quite well within the story being told.

Overall still a compelling romance with comedic moments, this one is likely less problematic for some than its predecessor, while still being nearly as problematic as its predecessor – or even more problematic – for others. Still, for what it actually is, it really is quite good and any issues are with the reader, not with Daws’ storytelling here.

Very much recommended.

#TwelveDaysOfChristmasRomance #BlogTour: Falling For The Baldasseri Prince by Rebecca Winters

For this next entry in the Twelve Days Of Romance blog tour series, we’re looking at a solid and short tale with a possibly questionable ending that you should absolutely read and decide for yourself about. For this blog tour, we’re looking at Falling For The Baldasseri Prince by Rebecca Winters.

Solid, Short, Semi-Questionable Ending. This is a fairly standard-ish modern royal romance ala a cross between Hallmark and Princess Diaries. And along that vein, it works quite well and particularly given its short-ish (18o ish page) length, manages to pack quite a bit of story into this tale. My biggest question is whether or not the author put too much sex in the tale – even if in just about the most chaste way possible – for it to truly qualify as a “clean romance”. Beyond that particular point though, truly a well told story with arguably extraneous ending material. But even with these last two points… read it for yourself and decide for yourself. 😉 Very much recommended.

#BlogTour: The Summer Of No Attachments by Lori Foster

For this blog tour, we’re looking at a light hearted Southern romance that has a remarkable number of attachments for a book titled “The Summer of No Attachments”. For this blog tour, we’re looking at The Summer of No Attachments by Lori Foster.

First, here’s what I had to say about the book on Goodreads:

Record Scratch. There’s… a remarkable amount of attachments here for a book titled “The Summer of No Attachments”. #ijs 😀

But seriously, this is one of those feel good, not even quite Hallmarkie (since it doesn’t really even have any even pushover “big threat”) Southern romance tales. Yes, there are a lot of heavy elements here – mom abandons son, drug use (off screen), abuse (also mostly off screen), #MeToo moments (also off screen), etc – but there is also quite a bit of lighthearted banter and romance. And puppies! And an old cat! This is apparently book 2 of a series, but it totally works as a standalone, as the people from Book 1 barely show up at all – making this one of those barely connected tangential “series” that share the same world and even town, but don’t heavily feature in each others’ tales.

Overall truly a light and refreshing read, despite its occasional heft, and great for a relaxing summer read, or a relaxing read at any point in the year really. Very much recommended.
